The Congress high command is learnt to have set a tough target for megastar-turned- Rajya Sabha member K Chiranjeevi to prove his charisma and leadership capabilities.
According to reports from New Delhi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has conveyed to Chiranjeevi through AICC in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs Ghulam Nabi Azad that he should make efforts to secure victory for the Congress party in at least six constituencies in the forthcoming by-elections. And the choice of these seats has been left to the megastar.
It was only after this message that Chiranjeevi had an emergency meeting with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana and discussed the party’s strategy in the forthcoming by-elections. He reportedly asked the PCC president to take him into confidence while selecting the candidates for Tirupati, Narasapuram, Ramachandrapuram, Payakaraopet, Narasannapet and Allagadda. He agreed to make extensive campaign for the party in these constituencies.
It remains to be seen whether Chiranjeevi has the stuff in him to ensure the Congress victory.
