Katrina Kaif is the new ‘Mehrunissa’

Buzz is going round that the makers of ‘Mehrunissa’ are trying hard to get actor Katrina Kaif on the board to play the coveted role of protagonist in the female. Earlier off-beat film actor Chitrangada Singh and Vidya Balan were the frontrunners roped in by the makers to essay the role. However, the ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ actor walked out of the project as she wanted to shift her attention to commercial cinema.

Vidya who is basking high on the success of ‘The Dirty Picture’ and ‘Kahaani’ is flooded with offers and yet has not confirmed the role. However, the makers are now in dilemma whether to wait for Balan or go ahead with Katrina. The film is already delayed as film’s male lead veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan is recuperating post his surgery.

Though Kat has not confirmed the role, the sources close to the 26-year-actor said that she was quite hesitant when she was approached to play a 62-year-old woman on screen.
