Story: A remake masala, the story is set on the backdrop of Kattukuppam in Thirunelveli district. This has Osthi Velan (simbu) as the inspector and he along with his assistants (Santhanam, Thambi Ramaiah, Vaiyapuri, Mayilsamy) rule the roost. The trouble comes in the form of boxer Daniel (sonu sood) who is keen on winning the election and for this he uses his influence and muscle power. However, his path clashes with that of Osthi.  On the other hand, Osthi's half-brother Balan (jithan) has a love-hate relationship while their mother (revathy) tries to patch them up. Osthi also has a love story in the form of Neduvali (richa). The story takes a turn when Daniel uses Balan and corners him to get even. What happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:  The director has come up with a cliched storyline and while the presentation was appealing, the narrative was good in parts. The script was written well and the screenplay was upto the mark. Background score was strong and three songs were impressive. Dialogues were punch packed. Cinematography was top notch. Editing was required during the second half. Costumes were natural and stylish while the art department was appealing. Silambarasan has come up with an impressive performance and he is all over the screen. Richa looks sexy and does most of her role through her eyes and less words. Sonu Sood was excellent and was a fitting villain. Jithan got a plum role and he used it properly. Revathy and Nasser didn't have much to offer. Santhanam brought few smiles. Mallika Sherawat sizzles in item song. The others did their bit as required.

Conclusion: The film happens to be the remake of the Bollywood blockbuster 'Dabangg' and despite being so familiar, enough nativity was included in the Tamil version. While the first half goes about with the lighter elements of comedy, romance and fights etc, the second half gets into serious mode with melodrama and family angle. The climax fight is worth a watch. Overall, this is a film that follows a predictable path but it is the execution and packaging which makes it appealing. At the box office, this will strike a chord with the mass audience and B,C centres so it will land in profit zone.

IdleStars Verdict: Typical mass masala flick, not for thinking audience
