Devasthanam Telugu Movie Review
Movie Name : Devasthanam Rating: 2.75 / 5Casting : SP Balasubrahmanyam, K Vishwanath and Aamani Music : Veena Pani Director : Janardhana MaharshiReleased date :13/4/2012

Small budget movies with great themes are always known to do wonders by winning the hearts of the audience. With veteran industry men like SP Balasubrahmanyam, K Vishwanath and Janardhana Maharshi collaborating for a movie with a caption Tirupathi Laddantha Teeyanaina Cinema, a set of audience are excited about the movie. Let us have a look at what Devasthanam has to offer to the audience.
Performances:
The performances by SPB and the veteran director K Vishwanath are literally flawless. The off-screen cousins did a splendid job in delivering the content probably because it is closer to their hearts. Both the characters of Vishwanath and SPB stir the heart and churn the forgotten feelings of human relations.
Aamani did a good job. The character played by Ramana Chary, IAS comes as a surprise and carries a lot of importance. The others fitted perfectly into their respective roles.
Technical Analysis:
Dialogues by Janardhana Maharshi appear to be very simple at the cursory level but, have an extraordinary depth. Dialogues at times give us an offer to think beyond the worldly affairs. Each of the song is full of meaning and strong message. The sweetness of Telugu language could be felt in every song.  The songs Paluku Thelupu Thallive and Sambayya deserve a special mention in this regard.
Swara Veena Pani’s musical compositions deserve a special mention and give a soothing experience for strained brains. However, the re-recording could have been better especially in a few scenes. The cinematography suits perfectly with the theme of film.
Janardhana Maharshi’s brilliance as a director comes out as he unravels what is seemingly a simple life of a religiously devout gentleman. His effort to bring these two stalwarts of Telugu industry in such a uniquely themed film deserves special applause. The screenplay however comes as a disappointment as it has nothing new to offer and at times makes the movie very stale.
Plus Points:
Performances of SP Balu and K Vishwanath
Dialogues by Janardhana Maharshi
Lyrics
Minus Points:
Theme of the movie is restricted to only a set of audience
 Too lengthy scenes
 Predictable screenplay
Verdict:
The theme of the film originates from the idea of preserving the culture of our country and explores the theme using simple and uncomplicated characters. Since, the actors and the director are veterans in the film industry the movie has delivered the theme undiluted without the regular masala of the Telugu industry. Though simple words were used in the film, the meaning that they conveyed by them was startling. At times the movie reminds us of K Vishvanath’s movies. However, it needs to be seen how this movie will fare commercially considering that Telugu audience have been harsh with experimental and off beat movies.
Devasthanam might not be a regular commercial movie with extraordinary fights and punch dialogues, but has the potential to join the league of the movies like Mee Sreyobhilashi and Aa Naluguru.
Final Word:
The movie is certainly good. But, it is limited to class audience.
