Story: Set on the backdrop of 18th century, the story begins with a set of thieves led by Sambayya (pasupathy) and they execute heists. However, an allegation of one robbery falls on them and Sambayya sets out to catch the person responsible. He turns out to be Chinna (aadhi) and after Sambayya sees Chinna’s skills as a thief, he gets him to his community and encourages him. However, one robbery ends in lot of injury to Sambayya but it is here that he discovers there is a hidden past of Chinna. Who is Chinna? Why did he come here? All this forms the rest of the story.
Presentation: The director has come up with a completely offbeat storyline and while the presentation was rustic, the narrative was appealing in parts. The dialogues were natural with raw flavour. The script was average but screenplay was gripping. Background score was energetic but songs were not that special. Cinematography could have been better. Editing was required during the second half. Costumes didn’t have much to do while the art department was brief. Aadhi came up with a brilliant performance and looks raw. He was well complimented by Pasupathy who showed his mettle wherever required. Dhansika is a natural seductress so she delivers to the extent required. Archana Kavi was total herself. T S Kala was okay. Singampuli was nice. Karikalan looked raw and savage. Vijayachander was decent. Bharath, Anjali, Shweta Menon added value with their cameos.
Conclusion: The film happens to be a dubbed version of the Tamil flick ‘Aravaan’ which is hitting the screens today. Since the time it hit the floors, the backdrop, the subject was a major discussion. True to the director’s style the film was rather raw and had its ingredients. While the first half goes on a good pace and develops interest, the second half slows down and drags, the climax again picked up at the right time. However, given the genre of the movie and the story, it cannot be taken as a commercial mainstream movie so no rating can be given. This might appeal to thinking audience and those who seek variety films.
